Several years ago you would not turn on the TV, pick
up a magazine or read the newspaper with
out reading about or seeing the phrase World
Wide Web.  We were all led to believe people all
over the world would be able to read our
beautifully created websites and shower us with
riches.

But there is a slight problem when it comes to becoming a famous international
web author when your site is in English only.

Here’s the deal there are roughly 360 millions people on the Internet
according to the Internet world stats website.  However there are over
6.5 billion people on planet earth and it is highly unlikely that most
of those folks speak English.

In fact according to the same Internet stats website sixty-two percent
of the Internet users world wide do not speak English which can put a
crimp in your plans to become that world famous website owner you
aspire to be.

So here’s the scenario that many English speaking blog owners are
faced with when it comes to getting visitors from outside of English
speaking countries.  You’ve put together a great looking blog with
helpful information but web surfers in non English speaking countries
looking for information to solve their various problems can not read
your English only blog.

Fear not your world fame may not be far off.  There is a sweet
WP plugin call the “Global Translator”. This little plugin is great, it
utilizes the Google translation engine so you know it is bound to be
powerful and accurate.  Once activated this plugin will begin
translating your blog posts and other blog entries into up to 50
different languages.  Now your site will not be instantly translated
into the various languages especially if you have a large established
site.

But given a little time your site will slowly become transformed into
the various languages you select to use on your blog.  I personally
use all 50 languages on my WP blogs I figure why not give anyone who
visits a chance to read my blog posts.

Now you may be thinking that’s a nice little gesture but I don’t think I
want to take the time to go looking for a plugin to translate my site into
languages my target market doesn’t speak.  In that case Ihave a few
comments for you regarding that thought process.

Just because your English speaking customers are looking for your
information what makes you believe that customers in other countries
don’t have the same concerns or could not benefit from your blog
information.

There’s another benefit you may not have thought about so let me ask
you this.  If your blog is in English only how many search engine
listing will you get?  What do you think will happen to your blog if
you had several hundred search engine listings for your site in
different languages spread out all over the web?

I added the Global translator plugin to one of my WP blogs at the end of
January 2010 and truthfully I got distracted with personal matters
and failed to keep an eye on the site after about a week.  Then
during the third week while checking my site rankings I noticed what I
initially thought was and errant listing for my site because I did
not recognize the characters on the site:yourdomainname listing results.

Then I clicked on the link and sure nuff there was my site with my
header and all my other content still there but just about all of
the English on my site had been translated into another language. To
say I was excited would be an understatement I think it amazing to
know that people in another country who don’t speak English can see my
work and enjoy it as much as my English speaking readers.

As of the date of this post I now have about 60 pages listed in Google
of my blog translated into languages other than English and you can
bet that will help my ranking in Google over time.

Listen don’t just take my word for it go download the Global translator
WP plugin and activitate it on your blog and you’ll also get additional
listing of your blog and posts in Google.  Google has spent a lot of
time and money on this service and you can use it for free to benefit
your customers and finally tell people you site is truly an
international blog.
